John Denver became a star thanks to the folk songs that he wrote, many of them located in Colorado. Born Henry John Deutschendorf Jr. in Roswell New Mexico, he was in the love of Colorado and eventually moved to Aspen. Denver's songs that he sang about his adopted home state drew many tourists to Colorado. G. Brown of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame declares that John Denver is unlike any other performer who has the recognizable image of Colorado. Denver was the first Hall of Fame ever to be inducted. Today he personifies the state for all people. Through my travels, I've met people from New Zealand or the other side. When you tell that you're from Colorado, the first words they'll say is Oh John Denver. Brown stated. Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff - was Denver's first Top 10 single as a solo artist following a short period in small folk ensembles. Danoff originally wrote it with Johnny Cash's music with a focus on Johnny Cash, however Denver realized from the first time he heard the earlier versions that it was going to be an instant popular. Just a few days after performing to an excited audience at Washington D.C., the singer recorded this song.
